A man accused of blasphemy has been shot dead in a Pakistani courtroom. The name of the accused is Tahir Ahmed Nasim.
The accused was killed during a court hearing in the northwestern city of Peshawar on Wednesday.
Citing security forces, international media reported that six shots were fired at him. The attacker has been arrested in the incident.
In Pakistan, blasphemy can lead to death if convicted. Even in such a situation, the accused in this law often have to face violence in the country.
According to sources, Nasim was arrested in 2016. He has been in police custody ever since. He is accused of violating blasphemy laws by claiming to be a prophet.
In the case, Nasim was charged with violating sections 295-A, 295-B and 295-C of the Blasphemy Act.
It is alleged that he insulted the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by claiming to be a prophet. According to the law, the maximum punishment for this crime is death. Tahir Ahmed Nasim was shot dead during the court hearing of the case.
