China has announced the suspension of the Hong Kong prisoner exchange agreement with Britain, Canada and Australia. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin made the remarks on Tuesday. So far, the agreement has been in force between Hong Kong and China, Canada and Australia.
Earlier, the three countries suspended the Hong Kong prisoner exchange agreement. Britain, Canada and Australia suspended the Hong Kong prisoner exchange agreement after China passed a unified national security law. In response, Beijing took action.
Wang Wenbin said misconduct by Canada, Australia and the UK has politicized judicial co-operation, which has damaged the very foundation of judicial co-operation with Hong Kong. Wang Wenbin added that the three countries had used the National Security Act as an excuse to suspend the Hong Kong prisoner exchange agreement.
Canada, Britain and Australia are members of the so-called Five Eyes Intelligence Alliance. Its other two members are New Zealand and the United States. New Zealand also announced today that it has suspended the Hong Kong prisoner exchange agreement.
