The last century has been called the 'American Century'. The role of the United States in the two world wars, its economic development, its participation in the Cold War, and, above all, the global turmoil following the collapse of the former Soviet Union it would not be an exaggeration to call the United States the last century. According to experts, the 21st century could similarly be the ‘Asian Century’. But will it really be so? Or will China come and interfere?

The United States' influence in the world has diminished over the years. Some blame President Donald Trump and his policies for this. This argument, however, is not to be discarded. The new coronavirus epidemic has created more conditions in the United States. The socio-economic disparities in different parts of the country have become apparent. In a situation where the country's situation was supposed to hold Trump in a tighter hand, the US president is being accused of unbridled "contradictory" words and actions. Apparently, he is canceling what he is saying today, tomorrow. And for all these reasons, global leadership is no longer in the hands of the United States.

The condition of some Western powers, including the United States, is not conducive to the coronavirus epidemic. On the contrary, success stories of various Asian countries against the epidemic are being known.

The situation of some Western powers, including the United Kingdom, is not an advantage. On the contrary, success stories of various Asian countries against the epidemic are being known. According to an article in the London Review of Books, Asian countries like South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam have not been able to control the epidemic in the same way as the United States or the United Kingdom. Even in the early stages of the epidemic, questions were raised about China's governance and government behavior, but it must be acknowledged that Xi Jinping's country was able to prevent the spread of the virus. However, areas like Florida and California in the United States still have the highest number of coronavirus deaths. But in the war against the epidemic, the United States was supposed to be the leader.

But why is the United States lagging behind? According to an article in the Financial Times, countries like the United States and the United Kingdom have long loved to think of themselves as "the best." Countries are now lagging behind because of this unreasonably high opinion of themselves. The leaders of these countries thought that they had nothing more to learn from the rest of the world. But that idea has now been proven wrong. And that is why countries are lagging behind Asia.

Analysts say the coronavirus epidemic is one of the strongest in Asia. At the same time, the economic structure of these countries is good and politically stable.

Due to the above reasons, foreign investment is increasing in these Asian countries. Asian countries are becoming centers of global trade. According to an article in the Bangkok Post, ASEAN countries have emerged as the most promising countries in the 21st century. The total population of the region is about 735 million. The number of middle class people is increasing in this region and at the same time the economic growth is also stable. All in all, Asia has become the third largest market in the world.

According to estimates by technology companies Google and Temasek, the e-commerce industry in ASEAN countries will grow to ৮৮ 6 billion by 2025. As of 2017, the number of young people in the region (aged 15 to 34) is about 213 million. By 2038, it will reach a maximum of 220 million. That means there will be a huge working population, which will work to provide cheap labor.

However, Xi Jinping's country can hinder this rise in Asia. China is now focused on regional politics due to its trade war with the United States. The country is becoming the largest country in the world in terms of trade. In 2019 alone, China's total trade volume was 4.6 trillion dollars. Apart from this, the country is constantly trying to increase its influence in the South China Sea. There are also geopolitical reasons behind this. According to a report published in Gulf News, the South China Sea is like the front yard of a Chinese house. So ensuring its security means keeping China safe. In addition, the South China Sea contains about 190 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 11 billion barrels of oil. This has only been measured. The natural resources of many more regions of the South China Sea have not yet been measured. In addition, the South China Sea is used to complete one-third of global trade by sea.

Because of China's aggressive behavior, many analysts fear that the 21st century could become China's rather than Asia's. According to an analysis published in the Indian Express, China believed in the awakening of Asia at some point in the last century. But now the country is no longer on the path to move forward with the rest of Asia as a whole. Because now the country itself has emerged as a superpower.

C Raja Mohan, director of the Institute of South Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore, thinks he wants to conquer the 21st century.
